Subacute Unit

For individuals who no longer require acute hospitalization, but remain medically fragile, Southern California Hospital at Culver City offers high-quality, comprehensive 21-bed inpatient care. Our residents require special services that may include inhalation therapy, tracheotomy care, intravenous tube feeding, or complex wound management care.

The subacute unit has received a maximum 5 out of a 5-star rating (which means “much above average”) for quality measures by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In addition, Health Services Advisory Group, the Medicare Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization for Arizona and California, awarded the unit a Certificate of Achievement for COVID-19 vaccination rates for residents and staff, demonstrating a commitment to protecting the lives. The unit also has successfully remained COVID-free since the beginning of the pandemic.

Due to an acute illness, injury, or disease, subacute residents have complex needs that require skilled, long-term care. The unit provides a comfortable, compassionate environment residents can call home while ensuring 24/7 access to clinical services and rehabilitation. An interdisciplinary subacute care team, which includes physicians, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, social workers, activity directors, and other medical professionals, cares for residents.

The subacute unit is located within the hospital, which provides the advantage of having clinical services and rehabilitation readily available on-site, including an emergency department with a rapid response team for any emergency situations.
